Service Details

Maynard Martin Dirks, 80, passed away November 30, 2015. A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at West Des Moines Christian Church, 4501 Mills Civic Parkway in West Des Moines, IA followed by light refreshments. Randy Ehrhardt will officiate the service.

Maynard was born March 30, 1935 in Laurel, NE where he was raised until moving to Sioux City, IA. He married Catherine Berg August 10, 1956. They lived in Sioux City where Maynard worked as a crane operator and in Hinton, Iowa, where he farmed land in Hinton, Lawton, and Bronson. In 1981, Maynard and Cathy moved to Des Moines, IA. Maynard worked as a truck driver until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clara and S. Fred Dirks; brother, Ronald Dirks and his wife Marion Dirks; brother-in-law, Cecil Jacobson; sister-in-law, Sharon Dirks; nephew, Paul Benson; nephew-in-law, Bob Bentz; great-niece, Jessica Dirks; granddaughter, Autumn Chesher; and three of his children, Marvin Martin Dirks, Theresa Lynn Dirks, and Pamela Jo Dirks.

Maynard is survived by his wife Cathy Dirks of Johnston, IA; his children, Jim and his wife Faith Dirks of Redding, CA, Steve Dirks of Hastings, MN, and Angela and her husband Philip Roe of Grimes, IA; grandchildren, Albert Dirks and Jennifer Kraemer of Ames, IA, Desirae Dirks of Sioux City, IA, Monica and her husband Chris Lambregtse of Sioux City, IA, Christina Dirks of Charlotte, NC, Stacy and her husband Fred Castillo of Perry, IA, Treasa Dirks and Andrew Bremmer of Sioux City, IA, Kym and her husband Nick Webb of Des Moines, IA, Max Roe and Angela Jessen of Des Moines, IA, Sean Roe of Grimes, IA, and Airyn Dirks of Hastings, MN; 22 great-grandchildren; siblings, Clair and his wife Ilene of Sioux City, IA, Raymond and his wife Judy of Steelville, MO, Beverly Jacobson of Freemont, NE, Sharon and her husband George Benson of Sioux City, IA, Jewel and her husband Ken Reifenrath of Sioux City, IA, and Shirley Gay of Aurora, CO; 25 nieces and nephews; and dozens of great-nieces and great-nephews.
