Geneva Armel
February 06, 2016
Geneva Armel, of Des Moines, passed away surrounded by her family’s love on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Taylor Hospice House. Geneva was born on June 11, 1939 in Sullivan County, MO to Frankie Pearl (Wages) and Donald Eugene Mason. She was a twin to Wineva and a sister to Phyllis, Donna and Michael. The family moved to Des Moines in 1943.
Geneva graduated from Lincoln High School and married Larry Lee Armel on January 16, 1958 and together they were blessed with three children. She lived her entire life on the southside. Geneva worked at Equitable Life, Allied Life Insurance, Meredith Publishing and for John Deere Credit. She loved cooking and baking for her family – especially sugar cookies. She and Larry enjoyed vacationing and taking cruises with close friends. She was a long time member of Ft. Des Moines Presbyterian Church, the Eastern Star Southgate Lodge and also attended Ft. Des Moines Church of Christ. Most of all she valued time with her family and she will be greatly missed.
Geneva is survived by her loving husband, Larry; sons, Raymond (Gaylene) Armel and Lance (Brenda) Armel; grandchildren, Melodee (Steve) Woods, Tara (Erik) Stemsrud, Brent Armel and Dylan Armel; three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Wineva Armer, Donna Vandenberg and Michael Mason; and many nieces, nephews, other family and beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Phyllis Conley; beloved daughter, Lori Armel and grandson, Kyle Armel.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. , Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. She will be laid to rest at Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at the funeral home.
