Margaret M. Freund, 101, passed away Friday, April 22, 2016 at Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center.

Margaret was born May 30, 1914 in Wausaukee, Wisconsin to Gertrude (Piskur) and Louis Draksler. She grew up in Wisconsin and moved to Des Moines in 1934. She retired in 1975 from A&P Grocery after working as a cashier for 20 years, it is here that she met the love of her life, Charlie. Margaret loved all children and they loved her. The kids loved going to see “Aunt Me Me” and spending time at “Camp Me Me”. Margaret took a special interest in the Special Olympics and for 26+ years she independently raised thousands of dollars for them. Margaret was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary and United Commercial Travelers. She was a kind, loving woman who will be dearly missed.

Margaret is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Charlie; sons, Steve (Mitzie) and Mike (Debra); twelve grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; nieces, Mary Ann (Don) Papian and Rozanne Bordenaro Galligan; and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. noon on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Special Olympics in remembrance of Margaret.
