Willa Mae Faris

Willa Mae (Brown) Faris, 85, of Des Moines, passed away on March 8, 2016.

Willa Mae Brown was born on February 25, 1931 at the family home in rural Wayne County, Iowa, the daughter of John William Brown and Esther Caroline (Grismore) Brown.

Willa Mae graduated from Seymour High School in 1948 and married Richard Ivan Faris. The couple moved to Newton, Iowa where Richard worked for The Maytag Company and Willa Mae worked for both Newton Manufacturing and The Vernon Company.

In 1974, Willa Mae and her daughters moved to Des Moines where Willa Mae worked for the State of Iowa as a clerk-typist for 20 years.

Willa Mae is survived by her daughter, Jocelyn Kay Faris of Glen Ellyn, IL; a sister, Wanda Rose (Brown) Ritter of LeGrand, Iowa; a brother, Jerry Brown of Doctor’s Inlet, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Willa Mae was preceded in death by her daughter, Ivalyn Mae Faris of Des Moines, IA; her parents, John William and Esther Caroline (Grismore) Brown of Seymour, IA and her brother John Junior Brown of Ankeny, IA.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, for both Willa Mae and her daughter, Ivalyn. Family will greet guests an hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour, IA.
