Raul Ruben “Blackie” Galvan, 68, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2016.
He was born September 7, 1947 in Des Moines, Iowa to Crespin and Amilia (Valadez) Galvan. He was self-employed as a mechanic and loved model cars, painting, and his family.
Blackie is survived by his children, Cindy Galvan, Lisa Lechuga, Brenda (Ricky) Ceniceros, Crissy Fernandez, Christopher Bear, and Crystal (Joseph) Gaynor, 19 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Gloria Rios, Linda Cross, Richard Galvan, Carmela Carroll, and Jerry Galvan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Chris, Gregory, Albert, Raymond, and Lloyd.
Services will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines with visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 7:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Blackie.

R.i.p Blackie who would of thought u and mom would go the same year same month on a Sunday just seen you driving down the freeway a few weeks ago I will miss yr funny talk your stories yr laugh you touch alot of people here on earth and I'm sure u will do the same in heaven ..we will miss ya bud..

Blackie was always around , playing cards , dominos, dice with Frank, they were inseparable, Frankie, Butch, and Blackie, and Blackie was always helping out some where with something, working on cars, who know what, only the three Amigos knew God knew you were getting tired so he gave you your wings, my condolences go out to the family, and my prayers as well

We didn't see eye to eye on things sometimes but I laugh when I think of all the good fights...my kids are forever grateful for all the bikes and skateboards and basketballs and go cart tires...they wouldn't have have had if it were not for you....and all the snacks you always brought makes them smile still!!!say hello to my husband for me could ya???

My prayers go out to Blackie's family during this time. Me, Blackie and my brother Frankie ran around together and was always having some kind of fun, my mom and I also took care of his grandma many years ago at Bishop Drumm, when it was on Clark, We are all sinners, and heaven gained another angel
