Mary (Montognese) Hillman

Mary Hillman, 93, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2016 at HCI Care Services Bright Kavanagh House.

Mary was born January 25, 1923 in Des Moines to James and Jeannie Montognese. She retired from American Republic Insurance after many years of service. Mary was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. She enjoyed doing word finds, cooking for others and spending time with her family. Mary’s specialties were her meatballs and her lasagna.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Teresa Hillman and Helena Short; grandsons, D.J. (Mindy Mortimer) Short and Derek (Bree) Short; great-grandchildren, Lydia Short and Dakota Short; siblings, Teresa Funaro, Tony Montognese, Annie Sterrett and Cathy Crosby; and a host of extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Carmella Fusaro, Frankie Montognese and Frances Cunningham.

The family will greet friends Friday, April 29, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30th at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Avenue. Burial will be at a later date.
