Gary D. Scott

Gary Dwight Scott, of Des Moines, passed away surrounded by his family’s love on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Manor Care in West Des Moines. Gary was born on April 25, 1944 to Florence (Rouse) and Rex Scott, Jr. in Lucas, Iowa.

Gary married Sharon Floden in 1962 and together they were blessed with two children. Gary started working for United Brick & Tile when he was 16 years old up until he retired at the age of 64. He enjoyed coon and squirrel hunting. He liked to fish. He loved all sports – especially race cars. Gary raised and showed rabbits. He had a deep love of animals – so much so he wouldn’t return his son’s dog!

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; children, Larry (Susan) Scott and Tammy (Mark) Matherly; four grandchildren, Brian (Rebecca Casconi) Scott, Jessica Scott, Charity Scott and Larry Scott; four great-grandchildren, Milo Smith, Chloe Scott, Tyler Nelson and Izaak Nelson; siblings, Peggy (Mike) Knight, Edward Powell, Betty Jo (Scott) Browning, Bobbie Jo Powell, Errond (Rachel) Powell, Jennifer Powell, Penny Raye Powell and Selena Powell; and many nieces, nephews, other loving family and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Florence and Rex, step-dad, Ed Powell, sister, Deloris Chiles and infant daughter, Pamela Lee.

Family will greet friends from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 2, 2016 at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Linn Grove Cemetery in Norwalk.
