Danny Lee Wegner

Danny Lee "Dan" Wegner passed from this earth to his Heavenly Savior on May 18, 2016 in West Des Moines, Iowa. He was born in West Point, NE on June 16, 1956. He moved to Lincoln at the age of three and graduated from Lincoln East High School. On January 7, 1978 Dan married Donna Weishahn. They lived in Palmyra and Kearney, Nebraska; Overland Park, Kansas; and Urbandale, Iowa, during their marriage.

Dan was a clerk for the Lincoln USPS for ten years before returning to college at DeVry University where he graduated in 1992. Dan was employed by General Adjustment Bureau in St. Paul, MN, Metropolitan Life, and Allied Insurance Companies. He was transferred to Des Moines by Nationwide Insurance in 2008 where he was employed as a Property Claims Manager at the time of his death.

Dan was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and choir in Urbandale, IA. He participated in the food judging program at the Iowa State Fair for many years. He loved gardening, cooking, family, and mentoring new employees.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Donna (Weishahn) of West Des Moines, IA; daughter, Kristin Leigh of Lincoln, NE; mother, Marjorie Kelly of Lincoln, NE; sisters, Kathy Brumbaugh of Fremont, NE and Cherie (Brent) Travis of Lincoln, NE; step-mother, Dorothy Wegner of Seward, NE; brother-in-law, Douglas (Martha) Weishahn of Lincoln, NE; nephew, John Weishahn of Kansas City, MO; and niece, Libby (Doug) Szwanek of Lincoln, NE; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Dan was preceded in death by his father, Dwane Wegner; his grandparents, Frank and Clara Toelle and Rudolph and Elizabeth Wegner; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lyle and Eleanor Weishahn.

Services will be held Monday, May 23, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 3825 Wildbriar Lane in Lincoln, NE. Family will greet friends Sunday, May 22 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Wyuka Funeral Home, 3600 "O" Street in Lincoln.
