Mary Ellen Herman

Mary Herman, 92, of Elkhart passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2016. She was born on February 4, 1924 near Elkhart. She married Ernest Herman on September 27, 1942.
Mary was involved in town activities and was a 4-H leader for many years. She was an 81-year member of the Elkhart Christian Church and was an Elder Emeritus. For many years she was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher. She also served on the Church Board and various church committees.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest. Survivors include her daughters, Virginia (Bill) McLean and Linda (Don) Howard; grandchildren, Julie (Mark) Schroeder, Rene (Paul) Leonard, Shari McLean-Merten (Eric), Chris (Nancy) Howard, and Mark Howard; eight great-grandchildren, three great great-grandchildren; and a brother, Daniel Albaugh.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 29, 2016, at Elkhart Christian Church where a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Christian Youth Fellowship’s Camp Scholarship Fund at Elkhart Christian Church.

Mary was a great correspondent. She very diligently wrote to me while I was overseas: Estonia, UAE, and Syria. Was very depressing at times and Mary was always there for me.
She also immediately welcomed into the family when Charlene and I married.
We'll all miss Mary.

I have so many fun memories of Aunt Mary and all great family times we shared. She was a wonderful lady and I will miss her. Thinking of you Virginia and Linda and your family. Sorry I will be unable to be there but I will be thinking of you. Love you. Karen
