Dale Hick, 88, was born March 1, 1928 in Altoona, Iowa, the son of Roy and Mabel (Curry) Hick. He passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Taylor Hospice House from complications after an unexpected fall.

Dale proudly served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1951. He worked in the Mess Hall and drove General Dwight D. Eisenhower (later President Eisenhower) around in the jeep. Dale met Betty Goldsberry before he entered the service on a double date with Fred Ray and Beulah Curry. In 1953 on September 4th, they married in Des Moines at the court house. Betty and Norman Hick stood up and witnessed their union.
Dale worked as a carpenter for the Iowa State Fairgrounds. In 1960, Dale and Betty moved to Altoona and he then began working for the Dennis Partridge Lumber Yard and was a carpenter on the side. In later years, Dale was also a foreman for the Polk County Bridge Crew.

Dale enjoyed square dancing for over 60 years. He loved running his tractor around his yard, especially when It served as a snow plow. Dale had many trucks throughout his lifetime, and loved each and every one of them. Above all else, he treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Dale is survived by his daughters, Colleen (Paul) Rindels and Debbie (Bill) Walker; grandchildren, Rod (Misty) Rindels, Tessa (Mike) Arpy, Stacy (Jamie) Olcott, Brad Rindels, Mike (Teresa) Boal, Lindsey (Adam) Kudej, Stephanie Boal, Christa Tanqui and Ashley (Jessie) Gieseke; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; Carol Thompson, significant other; other loving relatives and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th St. SW, with burial to follow at Rising Sun Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
