Service Details

November 5, 1933 - July 15, 2016

Marianne moved to Calvin Community in October 1994. She had been living in an apartment in West Des Moines, Iowa.

She loved to reminisce about her early life.

Marianne was born in Onawa, Iowa to James and Jesse Cooper and was an only child. She graduated from Onawa High School in 1951. She then enrolled in a business college for 2 years. Marianne never married. She lived at home with her parents most of her life.

Her first job was helping in a drug store with Pollo vaaccines. She enjoyed clerical work and she worked with her father in his law office. Later on she worked as an assistant for another lawyer.

Marianne enjoyed almost all types of music. She knew all the words to many hit parade songs as well as many sayings and quotes. She loved singing with other residents in “Hazel’s Choir.”

Earlier in her life she volunteered at Kiwanis dinners and various sales at her Congregational church. After she moved to Calvin she loved helping others and enjoyed assisting others to write cards and letters. She would often wheel her chair from room to room reminding people when it was time for an activity or a meal. She had a very independent and positive personality.

Marianne had a very quick wit and her shoulders would literally shake when she laughed! We will miss the beautiful smile and caring ways she shared with others throughout her life at Calvin Community.

Memorial service was held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Calvin Community in Des Moines, Iowa.
