John Edward Davis, of Des Moines, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Taylor Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. John was born on June 14, 1940 in Princeton, Missouri to Jennie (Mulvania) and Perry Davis.
John was self-employed in the excavating business. He enjoyed camping, gardening and spending time with his family. John was a Mason with the South Gate Lodge #657.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 50 years, Carol; children, Craig (Nancy) Davis, Terry (Tedi) Davis and Dawn (Peter) Gray; grandchildren, Alexandrea, Nicholas, Joshua, Samantha, Delilah and Sadie; uncle, Laurel Mulvania; and his sisters-in-law, Nancy (Frank) Rizzuti and Barb Flowers.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, with a Masonic service to begin at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 22nd at the funeral home and he will be laid to rest following at Masonic Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Unity Point Hospice Taylor House.

Carol and Family,
We are so sorry for the loss of John. He was a wonderful and caring person. He had such a big heart and a great laugh. We are so blessed to have known him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.
