Gladys I. Jones

Gladys Irene Jones passed away peacefully Friday, July 22, 2016 at Fountain West in West Des Moines. She was 101 years old.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed immediately by funeral services at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Unity Lutheran Church, 1450 E 33rd St, Des Moines. Burial will follow at Avon Cemetery.

Gladys was born December 14, 1914 in Story County, Iowa to Albert and Luella (Brown) Hewitt. She worked as a Precision Seamstress for Lindfeldt Champion Gloves for 20 years during her working life and was a member of Unity Lutheran Church. One of Gladys’s passions was ballroom dancing. She loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren were the light of her life.

She is survived by her children, Charles (Lynn Marie) Jones, Morris (Debra) Jones Jr., Patricia McGuire, Sara Collier, and Jacqueline Jones (George Morawska); son-in-law, Carl Dismore; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and her best friend, Lorraine Machholz.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Morris B. Jones; children, Mildred Dismore, Avis Kruse, Gladys “Sally” Stucker, Millard Kersey, and William Kersey; four sisters; and three brothers.

A very special thank you to Fountain West and St. Croix Hospice for their wonderful care and to Pastor Donna Joseph for her loving attention to Gladys.
