William W. "Bill" Bittner

William Wesley “Bill” Bittner, age 73, died Monday, July 25, 2016. Visitation will be held 5-7 pm, Friday, July 29, 2016 at Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona, IA 50009. Funeral Service will be held at 10 am, Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Oakwood United Methodist Church at 400 NE 56th Street, Pleasant Hill, IA 50327. Graveside service will follow at 1:30 pm, Saturday at St. Charles Cemetery in St. Charles.

William Wesley was born January 1, 1943 in State Center, Iowa to Cecil Arlo and Adella Irene (Staubus) Bittner. On December 9, 1967, Bill was united in marriage to Marilyn Cunningham in St. Charles, IA. They were blessed with three children. Bill worked at Fryes Manufacturing in Des Moines and retired from Tone’s in Ankeny in 2005. He enjoyed tractors and westerns, but most of all, Bill enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.

Bill is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marilyn; children: William Bittner II, Dan (Doan) Bittner and JoEllen Bittner Collins; six grandchildren: Caleb and Samantha Bittner and Clay, Chase, Colton, and Cash Collins; seven siblings: James Bittner, Judith Hanson, Chancy Bittner, Linda Burgess, Jeannie Ayub, Bonnie Rathbun, and Connie Pease; and many extended family and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and step-sister, Selena Kintz.
