René Halsey
August 17, 2016
René Halsey, 57, passed away August 17, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA with visitation Friday evening, August 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. and the funeral service on Saturday, August 20 at 10:00 a.m.
She is survived by her husband, Mark Halsey; her children, Brandon Halsey and Cory (John) Starr; grandson, Dawson Starr; siblings, Gail (Kevin) Silk, Craig (Chris) Thran and Wendy Thran; her many nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family and friends. René was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Liz Thran and her grandparents.
René worked in the insurance industry all of her life and most recently at Nationwide. She has battled ALS for the past 3-1/2 years. Rene' left us too early as she had battled ALS since she was diagnosed in June of 2013, but she lived a full life.
Rene' loved to golf, cook and bake, play cards, play games in the yard with friends (she cheated at croquet), ride her bicycle, and be with her many loving family and friends. She asks that everyone take time not to be sad but to instead enjoy reflecting on the wonderful life she had.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to ALS Association, Des Moines ALS Walk, and donate to Team René. Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

I was very sad to hear of Renes passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. Rene was my boss when I worked at Nationwide years ago. She was caring and thoughtful and a hard worker. She was an amazing person who had a way of making people feel special and that they mattered. On a Friday before I was going to take a week of vacation Rene left the office before I did, and since she knew she wouldnt see me until I got back from vacation she called my work phone from her cell phone to tell me that she hoped I had a nice vacation. It was one of the nicest and most thoughtful things anyone has done for me and I never forgot it. She even knew when I was down and not myself and would be there to listen. Rest In Peace Rene, you are truly missed.
