Joann Sloan

Joann Sloan, 81, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 23, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Joann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She enjoyed long rides with her late husband, Bill and more recently going to the casinos with her daughter, Debbie. She loved going out to eat and watching her programs on T.V. She is loved and will be missed very much.

She is survived by her loving children, Michael (Bonnie) Sloan, Debbie Daughenbaugh, Steve (Keely) Sloan, and Kathy (Toni) Sloan; daughter-in-law, Sue Sloan; siblings, Mary Lou (Bob) Schnoover and Larry (Junie) Gookin; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Joann was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred Sloan; parents, Donald and Lucille (Tyrrel) Gookin; son, Bill Sloan; grandson, Greg Sloan; and sister, Bonnie Gomez.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, August 22, 2016 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, August 23nd also at the funeral home followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
