Carolyn "Susie" Utley

Carolyn Ann “Susie” Utley, 67, passed away Friday, August 19, 2016 at Iowa Methodist.

Susie was born December 23, 1948 in Des Moines to Lloyd and Irene Billings. She worked as a dietary aide at Wesley Acres for 17 years. Susie was a member of Valley Junction Church of God. She was an avid thrift store shopper and Elmo collector.

Susie is survived by her husband of 51 years, Harry Utley, Jr.; children, Mike (Carrie) Utley, Madalene Utley, Sarah (Andrew) Wittmuss, Nick (Denise) Phipps, Jake Phipps and Brandon Phipps; grandchildren, Mitchell and Shelbie Utley; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Glenn Billings; and her sister, Thelma Zimmerman.

The family will greet friends Wednesday, August 31, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, September 1st at the funeral home. Susie will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
