Arthur Leroy Churchill
August 25, 2016
Arthur Leroy Churchill, 73, of Mitchellville passed away on Thursday August 25, 2016 at home. Arthur was born August 25, 1943 at home to Ardath & Vera Churchill in Mitchellville, IA. He attended Mitchellville High School graduating in 1961. He served in the Air National Guard.
In 1964, Arthur met Susan Kay Kissinger, were married, and recently celebrated 51 years together on July 17, 2016.
Arthur loved farming, doing so for over 50 years, and it was his life’s passion. In the early years, he was an active member of the Polk County Pork Producers. He loved racing his horses at Prairie Meadows. Arthur served as president of the Mitchellville Coop Board and later in life served on the Heartland Coop Board from 1995 until his passing, and held office as Board President the past several years. Arthur was a Director on the Legacy Bank Board for several years as well, retiring in 2015.
Arthur loved to watch his Grandchildren’s many activities as his family, along with farming, was the most important part of his life. Arthur had a wonderful personality and great sense of humor that will be missed tremendously. He was a mentor and father figure to many people as well.
He is survived by his wife Susan; Daughters Lori (Mark) Rawleigh; Julie (Bill) Rooney; Jennifer (Travis) Simpson. Grandchildren Ryan, Rachel, Samantha, Trevor, and Molly. Brother Dennis (Toni) Churchill; Sisters Majel Taylor; and Audrey (Bill) Bisby; and many other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ardath and Vera Churchill, and brothers Harley and Jerry Churchill.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, August 29, 2016 at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1701 8th St SW, Altoona. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 30, also at the church. Burial will be at Mitchellville Cemetery with luncheon following at the Mitchellville Community Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Mitchellville Community Center or to the family for a future Agricultural Scholarship in his honor.
