Rowland LeRoy Miller was born on August 25, 1957 in Des Moines, Iowa to Raymond and Marilyn Miller. Rowland passed away peacefully at home on August 26, 2016, with his wife Diana by his side.

Rowland is survived by his wife, Diana Miller; son, Shawn (Angie) Miller of Minnesota; daughters, Misty (David) Boots of Des Moines and Dalaiena (Levi) Dennis of Pleasant Hill; grandchildren, Dominick, Dylan, Dallas, Caleb, Hailey, Kaden, Zaven and Chloe; in-laws, Jim and Bonnie Cross; mother, Marilyn Campbell of Centerville; sisters, Lori (Randy) Campbell, Martha Barto and Marlene Wright; grandmother, Nora Miller; and many other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his fathers, Raymond Miller and James Campbell; brothers, Roland and Gene; grandparents Henry and Bertha Meyer and David Miller.

Rowland worked with his father siding houses. Working with his father is what got Rowland loving his job of construction on houses. Rowland worked for Steve on houses putting up siding. Steve was one of Rowland’s best friends as well as Gino. Gino also worked for Steve and worked right alongside of Rowland siding houses. Steve took them up to Spirit Lake for a getaway. He would go to auctions to get any unique item that he liked. He would also get items for his house that Diana and he lived in.

Rowland loved to spend time with his family, friends and dogs. He loved to go fishing with his grandkids and wife. He loved the outdoors, creating many years of wonderful memories of camping and fishing trips. Being a grandpa was a true joy to Rowland. He loved to spend time with all of his grandkids. To some people his nickname was Rocky and there was a story behind the nickname. During the reception, the person who knows the story might love to tell it.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 2, 2016 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW in Altoona. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 3rd at the funeral home followed by burial at the Bondurant Municipal Cemetery. A reception will follow the burial at the Salvation Army, 1216 E 25th Court in Des Moines.
