Elizabeth J. Sample

Elizabeth June Sample, 90, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Thursday, December 1, 2016.

Elizabeth was born June 7, 1926, in Cherokee, Iowa, to Willard and Anna (Heck) Casey. She moved to Sioux City, Iowa where she met the love of her life, Harold Charles Sample. They were happily married until his passing in 1976. Elizabeth worked as a dry cleaner for FW Means until she retired at the age of 63. She was a woman of strong faith and enjoyed watching church services on television every Sunday morning. Elizabeth enjoyed crocheting and many different craft projects, especially making Christmas bulbs.

Elizabeth is survived by her children, Elizabeth (Gary) Drumm, Cliff (Marie) Sample, Lois (Denis Wolf-Keith) Risius, Michael Sample, and Richard Sample, nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Anna Casey; husband, Harold Charles Sample; son, Harold Charles Sample, Jr.; and her sister, Betty Heydenrich.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 9, 2016 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Interment will take place at Glendale Cemetery after the funeral. There will be a reception at Southridge Senior Residence, 1100 Cummins Road, in the community room following the burial. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Elizabeth.
