Beverly Ann Long, 87, passed away on Friday, December 2, 2016 at Ridgewood Specialty Care in Ottumwa, IA. She was born on November 9, 1929 in Marshalltown, IA to Edwin and Ruth (Kimball) Shaffer.
Beverly loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed traveling and taking day trips around Iowa with Marlin or to visit her children and grandchildren. One of Beverly’s most memorable trips was a Caribbean cruise she took. Beverly was often seen at her favorite restaurant, Taylor’s Maid Rite, in Marshalltown. She also enjoyed word puzzles, especially her word searches.
Beverly is survived by her children, Valerie (Rod) Schmitt of Bonaparte, IA, Keven (Deirdre) Priske of Bentonville, AR, and Deborah Barker of Ankeny, IA; step-children, Michael (Nini) Long of Perry, IA, and Patti Allen of Ankeny, IA; brother, William Shaffer; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marlin Long; parents; son-in-law, Russell Barker; brothers, Edwin Shaffer, Jr., Gerry Shaffer, and Michael Shaffer; and sister, Linda Summers.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Family will greet friends from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. after the memorial service at the funeral home. Private burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens at a later date.

The Allen and Long families were sadden by the passing of Bev. She was a good stepmother and grandmother. We all were disappointed in not being notified of her passing or the funeral arrangements.
