Jack Joseph Johnson

Jack Joseph Johnson, 81, was born November 28, 1935, in Norwoodville, Iowa, the son of Wilbur and Agnes Johnson. He passed away Friday, January 13, 2017, at Parkridge Specialty Care in Pleasant Hill, Iowa.

There will be a graveside service at Berwick Cemetery at a later date.

Jack grew up in Norwoodville and graduated from Des Moines Technical High School. He enlisted in the Army and served for three years. Jack retired from Firestone Tire & Rubber after 34 years of service. He was an avid fisherman his entire life and enjoyed working with electronics, dancing, and playing poker and pitch.

He is survived by three children: son, Fred (Joyce) Johnson of Des Moines and daughters, Joann Johnson of Norwalk and Rita Hoover of South Carolina; five grandchildren: Emily (Josh) Shendelman of Ankeny, Stacy (Kevin) Kausilik of Grimes, Sarah (Alex) McKinney of Bondurant, David Hoover and Megan Hyatt, both of South Carolina; and four great-grandchildren: Parker, Avery, Audrey, and Benjamin.

Jack was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Marianne Ritter, his parents, Wilbur and Agnes Johnson, and his sister, Phyllis Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association in loving memory of Jack.
