Service Details

The family of Elsie M. (Price) Floerchinger, formerly of Neola and Ankeny, IA is saddened to announce her passing on January 14th.

Elsie was born February 17, 1929 in Honey Creek, IA the second child to William and Freda (Petersen) Price. She graduated Valedictorian from Minden High School and was committed to attending her high school reunions until the onset of her illness. After graduation, she worked as a clerk for Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Neola, IA. Shortly after WWII, at a café across from the bank, she met her future husband, Harold. Married in 1950, together they lived in Neola until they moved to Saylor Township in 1963. It was there that they raised their four children. Elsie was employed by the Saydel School District for many years. She also worked for General Growth Real Estate Developers, the Girl Scouts of America and volunteered countless hours as a bookkeeper for St. Paul Presbyterian Church.

Elsie was an avid traveler, photographer, and enjoyed genealogy research. She traveled twice to Denmark to gather family history and enjoyed many visits to Elkhorn, IA. She was a fabulous gardener, cook, and seamstress: a woman of great constitution. Widowed too soon, she was an active member in the Des Moines Chapter of Parents Without Partners. In 1982, she was awarded Parent of the Year for the Midwest region. Toward the end of her life, she especially enjoyed socializing daily at the Neveln Center in Ankeny where she had many friends.

Elsie is survived by her loving children, Leon (Donna) of Evanston, Illinois, Wayne (Josie) of Ankeny, Beverly Lish (Dennis) of McCammon, Idaho, and Brian (Cecelia) of Rockford, Michigan. She was a proud grandmother of Andrew (Teryl), Heidi (Jason), Harold “Harry,” Grace, Garrett and Gabrielle. She took great enjoyment in her great-grandchildren, Cal, Isabelle and Benjamin.

Elsie is now joyously reunited in heaven with her late husband, Harold; her parents; brothers, Glen Price and Leroy Price; and sister, Marge (Price) Hunt.

A memorial service for Elsie will be held Friday, January 20th at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul Presbyterian Church, Johnston, IA. There will be a one hour visitation with family prior to the service. A graveside service will be conducted at the Neola Township Cemetery in Neola, IA on Saturday the 21st at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception at the Neola Community Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to St. Paul Presbyterian Church in her name.
