Mervin Floyd Doty, son of Reno and Clara (Lindsey) Doty, was born October 10, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa. He passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the age of 78. There will be a visitation held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.

Merv was a bricklayer from 1956 to 1988 and was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen, and BAC Local #3 Iowa. He was proud to have served as business agent, and also secretary and treasurer for these organizations until 1993. Family meant everything to Merv and his grandchildren were his world. He was a member of Westchester Evangelical Free Church, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and had an extensive watch collection.

Merv is survived by his daughters, Debra (Dale) Waltz, Jerri (James) Hott and Tamara Bales; grandchildren, Matthew Waltz, Ashley (Joseph) Andrews, Andrew and Shelby Hott, Joshua, Jacob and Andrea Bales; great-grandchildren, Faith, Nathan, Harper, Gracie, McKenzie, Addie, Allie and Bristol; sisters, Betty Rife and Corrine Coffman; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reno and Clara Doty; brother, Edward Doty; and sister, Berdina Hammond.
