Christine was taken into the arms of our Lord early March 20, 2017 in Wesley Acres Care Center due to cancer.
She was born April 15, 1947 in West Des Moines, Iowa. Her parents were Kenneth Dale and Jean Thomas.
She graduated from Valley High School, attended Drake University and graduated from East Texas State University with a degree in Elementary education. She taught elementary school in Dallas, Texas and Des Moines, Iowa for a few years until she married her husband who survives her, Robert Cox. She was a longtime active member of P.E.O./Chapter LS. She was a popular guest speaker at Wesley Acres and at many events and schools.
She suffered from a disability that caused her to gradually lose her sight, hearing and mobility over the last thirty years of her life. But, she was always optimistic and friendly to everyone. She had many friends and was a very religious woman, which gave her a remarkable joy for life.
She received training at the Iowa Blind Commission and lived at Wesley Acres for the last twenty-five years of her life. While living at Wesley Acres, she served in many roles. She taught sign language to the staff and residents and she mentored to nursing students. She was chosen to be an ambassador for the 69th Celebration of Wesley Acres Heritage. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Her brother Timothy Thomas of California survives her.
There will be a celebration of life held at Wesley Acres Care Center, 3520 Grand Ave, Des Moines, on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. It will be held in the community room. Take the west entrance off of Grand Avenue and enter under the green awning.

Chris lived with such grace and faith, a beautiful lesson for all. She was my dear friend for many years and she will be missed. She often said "think positive", I will try to do just that. With love and prayers for you my dear Chris.

Christine and my mother Joyce were very close friends. My mother, my family and I are all better off for having known this remarkable woman. Her joy was infectious and her faith was unshakable. We could all learn something from the way Christine lived her life. I am ashamed to say that I had not visited her since my mother passed away, but please know she will never be forgotten.

The world would be a much better place if we could duplicate how Chris treated others. She had so much to complain about but didn't and she found a positive turn to all the adverse things she had to deal with. She once said: " I was given a bunch of lemons and I'm making sweet lemonade out of them."

Thank you to everyone who posted such thoughtful memories of my dear Aunt Chris. She was a formative force in my life and probably the most positive person I have ever met. She always saw the best in everyone and is an example to follow for looking for the good in others and being thankful for what we have rather than complaining about what we do not have.

Like everyone that ever Knew and loved you, and there were many, the Carano's also loved you. While Heaven is full of beautiful people You and Lynn won't have to take a back seat to anyone. Life isn't always rewarding and we fill cheated in not being able to have been with you in your time of need. We know that you always knew we loved you as we knew you loved us. We thank God for Wanda and am sure God will likewise be generous to her. You will never be forgotten.

Chris possessed the gift of being grateful and caring despite her own difficulties. Not only do I remember her as a lovely young girl at Valley High School, but as an inspiration during her life at Wesley Acres. It's rare to see someone handle life's circumstances with such grace. Well done, Chris.

Chris was my high school friend. She was a bridesmaid in my wedding back in 1969. She was a beautiful, tall, blonde back then. She was a gentle, sweet, lady. When I visited her at Westley Acers, she never complained about her health problems as she said she knew the Lord would heal her someday. She is now well again and is with her parents in Heaven. May blessings and prayers be with her family.

I remember Chris as a loving, giving lady who always put care and concern for others ahead of herself. She remained enthusiastic for life in spite of her handicaps and was the perfect example of how to be thankful for life in spite of the setbacks life can deliver. I will honor her memory by remembering to be thankful for the good in my life and hopeful and strong when dealt hardships.

We have fond memories of Chris. We remember attending a company trip with Chris when we went to Hawaii. She was a beautiful women inside and outside. Her new home is heaven. Our sympathy to her family.
