Larry E. McNichols, age 55, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, surrounded by his loving family, on March 23, 2017, after a courageous three year battle with cancer. He is now in Heaven “Dancing with the Angels.” Larry was born on June 18, 1961, to Arthur Franklin and Barbara Joan McNichols (Byers) and James Byers (step-father) in Des Moines, Iowa.

Larry married Leanne L. Schooley on June 23, 1979. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his dog, Jazz. He enjoyed taking vacations to Branson, boating, jet-skiing, bonfires, and camping. Larry will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend.

Larry is survived by his wife, Leanne, children, Colby (Jaime) McNichols of Altoona, Kyle (Brenda) McNichols of Des Moines, Lucas (Erin) McNichols of Waukee, and Hannah McNichols of Des Moines, eight grandchildren, siblings, Mary Burlison (Kevin Lasmanis), Richard (Bert) McNichols, Cecil (Rosemary) McNichols, and many beloved family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents (James and Barbara Byers, Arthur McNichols, Larry and Karen Robbins), his grandparents, and his siblings, Billy Byers and Terri Wolfe.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 31, 2017, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Lee Town Assembly Church, 2720 State Avenue, Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
