Greg F. Amendt, 66, passed away on April 24, 2017. He was born on January 9, 1951 in Marshalltown, IA to Marilyn J. (Peterson) and Virgil E. Amendt. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1969 and advanced his education in Plano, TX. Greg served in the United States Military as a Marine for 18 years in both active duty and reserve. He received several medals and badges for his service. After his honorable discharge he moved to Seattle, WA and worked for many years as an assistant warehouse supervisor. He later moved to Tampa Bay, FL and worked as a maintenance supervisor. He moved to Des Moines, IA in 2003 to be close to family and worked at Valley West Mall until his retirement.

Greg traveled and loved adventure. He had a full life moving about the United States and with the military. He loved family and always had time to attend his nephew’s athletic events. Greg was raised on the family farm near Melbourne, IA. He loved the outdoors and had fond memories of his time on the farm. He will be remembered fondly for his generous spirit, laughter and willingness to help everyone. Greg was a kind soul and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his mother, Marilyn J. Amendt; his brothers, Scott (Teresa) Amendt and Brad (Debra) Amendt; and nephew, Kyle Amendt. Greg was preceded in death by his father, Virgil E. Amendt; and step-mother, Earlene Amendt.

Services will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA. Family will greet friends following the service.
