Betty Jean Burks

Des Moines

Betty Jean Burks was born December 4, 1943, to Margaret and Leslie Streeter, Sr.

She married Clyde Earl Burks and was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. She was a homemaker and a member of Temple of Rest Assembly. Betty was a talented baker, and will be remembered especially for her cookies. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, gardening, and going camping. Betty’s hobbies included reading and crocheting. Above all, God and family were most important to Betty. She was lucky enough to have married her best friend and love of her life. Betty and Clyde were married 55 years prior to his passing in February of this year. Betty was a warm and caring person and she adored children.

Betty passed away Monday, September 4, 2017, at the age of 73, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

She is survived by her siblings, Margaret Hill, Leslie Streeter Jr., Robert E. (Margaret) Streeter, Ronny (Becky) Streeter, Earl Streeter, Pamela Fees, Patricia Frye, June Costa, Christine Horn, Susan (Steve) Bellis, and Naomi (Doug) Gordon, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde, parents, Leslie and Margaret Streeter, and her siblings, Ethel Fazio, Danny Streeter, and Robert M. Streeter.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 11, 2017, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
