Fanny Wong, age 74, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 8, 2017. She was born on March 22, 1943 to Cheung Yin (father) and Fun Kim (mother) Chan in Canton, China. In 1966, Fanny moved to Canada. She was united in marriage on December 20, 1966 to Sidney Wong. From this union, 3 sons were born, Arthur, Norman and Carl.

For many years, Fanny was a stay-at-home mom raising her sons and taking care of the family home. In the late 1970’s, she and Sidney moved the family to the United States and settled in Des Moines, Iowa. They owned and operated the Chinese restaurant, “The Golden Dragon” in West Des Moines until retirement in 1990. Fanny enjoyed going to the West Des Moines Senior Center where she loved to play bingo, help serve the meals to the other seniors, and visit with her friends. She also loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren.

Fanny is survived by her loving husband, Sidney; her sons, Arthur (Kelly), Norman (Suzie), and Carl (Linda) Wong; her siblings, Annie Chan, Glenn (Lily) Chan, Grace Hui, Daniel (Helen) Chan, Hannah (James) Chu, Esther (Ping) Kwong; brother-in-law, Andrew (Ruth) Wong; 6 grandchildren, Eric, Kellie, Justin, Ben, Jon and Ashley; 3 step-grandchildren, William, Alexandra and Lindsay, 6 step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her father, Cheung Yin Chan; mother, Fun Kim Chan; father-in-law, Wong Fu Wong; mother-in-law, Yook King Wong; her grandson, Michael Wong; brothers-in-law, Peter Hui and Victor Wong; and sister-in-law, Yee Ma Wong. Fanny will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Services will be held Friday, September 22, 2017 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. and the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.
