Agnes Marshall

Agnes Yvonne Marshall passed away October 2, 2017. She was born January 7, 1919, to Lewis H. and Helga (Thompson) Jacobson in Viborg, South Dakota. She grew up on a farm near Wakonda along with her siblings, Rollen, Curtis, Virginia, Gladys, and Alfreda. She graduated from Wakonda High School and then moved to Des Moines where Dr. Anderson employed her. She married Russell Cunningham and together they raised their sons, Gaylord, Gary, Roger, Rod, Calvin, and Chuck.

Russell passed away December 20, 1971. Agnes worked the nightshift at Firestone plant for 26 years building tires. During the day, she babysat and took in ironing. She met and married Ray Marshall of Runnells in 1973. They moved to the farm where she enjoyed a huge garden and flowers. Her yard was her pride and joy. It was beautiful with constant color and lawn ornaments. Agnes’s yard was her masterpiece. Ray passed away in June of 1995. Agnes later sold the farm and moved to Altoona until health issues occurred, urging her to move to assisted living and then to Altoona Nursing Home where she passed away. Agnes had 18 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.

She is survived by sons, Gary (Connie), Rod, and Chuck; Daughter-in-Law, Shirley Cunningham, and special niece, Linda Shepherd.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Marshall; each of her siblings; sons, Gaylord, Roger, and Cal; grandsons, Brian, Chris, and Travis Cunningham.

Visitation will be Friday, October 6, 2017, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th St SW, Altoona. Service will be Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Cornerstone Church, 410 SW 17th Ave, Altoona.
