Nadine Marie Veasley, 88, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center.

Nadine was born May 21, 1929 in Des Moines to Richard and Irene Johnson. She was married to Alfred Veasley Sr. for 40 years until his passing in 1990.

She graduated from East High School then went on to attend Grandview College. She worked for the IRS until deciding to be a stay at home mother and raise her four sons.

Nadine was a lifetime member of Bethel AME Church where she had been involved with many of the church activities, including Sunday school teacher, super-intendant of the Sunday School Department, youth choir director, and a member of Bethel AME Missionary Society.

She loved gospel music, fancy church hats, playing the piano, sewing, being with her family and friends and grandchildren. She was a lover of life and will be missed.

Nadine is survived by her sons, Alfred Jr., Marquis, Duhvall and Kervin Veasley; siblings, Marvin Johnson, Patricia Barnes and Rudolph Johnson; grandchildren, Kervin Allen (Danielle), Kristina, Nadine Marie, Jaedyn and Endy; great-grandchildren, Devonte, I’tayzia, Kalesha, Madyson, Kaylea, Kervin, Kameron, and King; great-great-grandchildren, Trinity and Zane; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred Veasley Sr.; brother, Burnell Johnson; and grandson, Jason Veasley.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Bethel AME Church, 1528 E. University Avenue followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday the service at the church.
