Phyllis Huxford

Phyllis Miester Huxford, 89, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2017. She was born on March 22, 1928, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Charles and Jane Miester. Phyllis graduated from North High School in 1946. Soon after, she met Don Huxford and they married in 1946. They celebrated 55 years of marriage prior to his death in December of 2001. Don and Phyllis’s family includes Don Huxford of Des Moines, Phil Huxford (Denise) of Lafayette, CO, Sherry Carroll (Dan) of Des Moines, Bill Huxford (Cindy) of Norwalk, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Phyllis was a homemaker for most of her life. She also worked for Younkers, was a home health aide, and an amateur clown. Phyllis was a lifelong member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and volunteered in many ways. She enjoyed playing on the Granny Basketball League for many years. She loved to travel, Hawaii being one of her favorite destinations. Her cats held a special place in her heart.

Phyllis was a resident of Ramsey Village in Des Moines. The family would like to thank the staff for their loving care.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, November 5, 2017, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 9 a.m., Monday, November 6, also at the funeral home, followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
