Service Details

Jerome Lloyd Sievers, Sr., 73, joined his Heavenly Father and his loving wife, Colleen, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa on Monday, November 6, 2017. Jerry was born on September 13, 1944, in Breda, Iowa to Agnes (Koster) and Lenus Sievers.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 10, 2017, at Rush Family Care Services, 1629 10th Street in Onawa, Iowa with a Rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 11, 2017, at St. John Catholic Church, 1009 13th Street. He will be laid to rest following Mass at Onawa Cemetery.

Jerry was raised and worked on the family farm outside of Breda, Iowa. He married Colleen Kay Adams on May 30, 1964, and together they were blessed with four children. They raised their family in Omaha and after retirement built a home on Blue Lake in Onawa. He retired at the age of 59 after 35 years in the elevator industry. He worked for O’Keefe Elevator and Millar/Schindler. He was a proud Union member. Jerry dedicated many years of fraternal service in the Foresters (IOF), holding several offices such as Chief Ranger, High Treasurer, and High Chief Ranger. He devoted much of his time in service to others by volunteering. Jerry was a faithful servant to the Lord. His Catholic faith was very important to him. He was a 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He was a Eucharistic Minister and devoted many hours to St. John Catholic Church where he made many close friends. He deeply loved his family, gatherings with his good friends, traveling and family functions with both his immediate family and his large extended family. Above all else he especially loved time with his granddaughters. He will be greatly missed.

Those left to honor his memory are his sons, Jerome Jr. and Kevin; daughter, Janelle (Trina) McCreary; granddaughters, Faith (Nate Buckley) Sievers and Jordan McCreary; step-grandchildren, Shannon (David), Lisa, Shane and Dylan; step-great-grandchildren, Javion, Camryn and David; siblings, Karen Hazelton, Ronald (Mary) Sievers, Nancy (David) Georgi, Marlene (Loras) Hoffmann, Janice (Mike) Huisenga, Dale (Deb) Sievers, Glenn (Beth) Sievers and John (Cheryl) Sievers; step-mother, Wilma Sievers and her family; Colleen’s siblings; many uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen; infant daughter, Jeanne Marie; daughter in-law, Valerie and his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Mary’s Choice in Sioux City.
