Ronald Ordrop Burns

Service Details

“You’re kidding?” is what Ron might say at the news of his passing. “That man was surely stubborn enough to make it past 88!” Being stubborn is just one of the many things for which our incredible Ron was known. He was an amazing entrepreneur, opening three Tower Shops, Oakmoor Racquetball, and America’s Children and developing housing and commercial properties. He was also known for taking his pals’ money on the golf course (claims 8 holes in one!), being the best dressed, and being the original “Mr. B.” He was known for heckling anyone that would give him the opportunity and, most fondly, for loving, protecting and honoring his family!

Ron built memories with everyone he met, including especially those with his: wife, Deon, of 68 years, who was also his high school sweetheart; pals on the golf course; buddies from college football (he earned an athletic scholarship to the University of Denver); friends from his days skiing in Colorado; and family. Ron’s ability to make an impact on folks is matched by few and trumped by none. One can’t count the number of stories he told through passion and tears of laughter.

Those that Ron leaves behind include his wife, Deon; three children, Chris (Don) Larsen, Robin (Paul) Vannausdle and Kevin (Pam) Burns; his thirteen grandchildren, Peter, Matthew, Courtney, David, Bret, Andrew, Whitney, Sarah, Bryan, Taner, Kobe, Taegan, and Kealyn; and his thirteen great-grandchildren. His family is forever grateful to have known a man with his poise, work ethic, generosity, happiness and love.

We would like to extend an invitation to Ron’s family and friends to honor him and celebrate his life on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA with a visitation to be held one hour prior to the service.

As an expression of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations in Ron’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital which can be placed through www.stjude.org. Condolences may be expressed online at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
