Gerald G. Wallace, 93, passed away on December 8, 2017. He was born April 12, 1924 in Des Moines to Charles and Iva (Kershaw) Wallace.
Gerald was a Navy vet and served his country proudly in WWII. He was one of the participants on the first Honor Flight out of Iowa. Gerald eventually retired as a Captain from the Polk County Sheriff’s Department.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Wilma; daughter, Linda (Laird) Caraway; son, Gerald (Kathy) Wallace II; 10 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; and many great and great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Ross; sons-in-law, Roy Ross and Kenneth Berry; and brothers, Jack and Billy Wallace.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Highland Memory Gardens, 1 NE 60th Ave., Des Moines.

Wanda and I were saddened to hear of the passing of Jerry. He and Wilma lived in our town home community. We had talked to Jerry and Wilma several times and they were a delightful couple. Jerry shared with me his "Memory Book" of service and marriage and his traveling to DC along with other Vets. We will miss them both being out of the community. We lived on Birch Lane and mom and Wilma were good friends even in school - going through mom and dads things found several pictures of you and your family -please accept our sympathy and may god bless Wilma and your family

We first met Jerry and Wilma when we moved to the south-side of Des Moines back in 1979. They were wonderful neighbors. Even after we moved away we always wondered what happened to them. We are so glad Jerry lived a good long life and that Wilma is still with us. May God's love be with all of you during this difficult time. Kevin and Diane Gass
