Dean Henry Follon was born on February 24, 1940 in Spencer, Iowa. His parents were Elwyn Ray and Gladys Rene Winterboer Follon of Everly, Iowa. Dean was raised on the family farm near Everly with crops, cattle, and horses. He graduated from Everly High School in 1958 and moved to Des Moines to work at John Deere in Ankeny. He was laid off from John Deere and began to work for an Insulation Company.

He then met Marva and married in 1961. They moved the family to Everly, Iowa in 1964 and began their life farming with his father. Their farm consisted of crop farming soybeans, corn, alfalfa, oats. He enjoyed milking cows daily, feeding cattle and hogs. He also had several horses that he loved and cared for. Most people knew that Dean had a talent for building, fixing things, welding things, and was an excellent farmer. Dean had many friends and fellow farmers in several towns in the area and he enjoyed visiting with them. He loved the farming life.

They moved to Colorado in 1982 to experience the mountains. He worked as a ranch hand at a horse ranch campground in the town of Grand Lake, Colorado. He moved back to Iowa and eventually to reside in his home in Beaverdale. He worked as the Building Superintendent and Groundskeeper at Westminster Presbyterian Church for over 28 years.

He loved to fish, play cards, working with his hands, being in the outdoors. He was a proud and protective father who cared deeply for his family and others. He enjoyed helping members of the Church and friends with mowing and scooping snow, and occasional "Handyman" jobs.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Elwyn Follon; his brother, William Follon; and his sister, Shirley Follon Rinehart. He is survived by his sister, Joyce Blair; children: son, Eric Follon and his wife Liz, their children Tyler and Ethan; daughter, Beth Follon Schoenewe and her husband Greg, their son Tucker; daughter, Suzy Miller and her husband Ron, their children Amber, Ian and Lexy; son, Rob White, his children Jennifer, Robyn and Kelley; daughter, Marcie Lago and husband Larry, their children Austin and Ashley; and 10 great grandchildren; and his cat ZsaZsa.

The Funeral to be celebrated on December 16, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4114 Allison Ave, Des Moines, Iowa. Reception following.
