Virginia Dorothy Durham

Virginia Durham, 93, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Ramsey Village in Des Moines.

Virginia was born October 6, 1924 to William and Harriett Thomas. She graduated from Melcher High School in 1942 and married her high school sweetheart Harold E. Durham on June 30, 1946 after Harold returned from serving in World War II.
Virginia retired from The Veterans Administration in 1984. They enjoyed traveling the world for many years together.

She is survived by her sister, Phyllis Shumway; two sons, Rick (Dawn) of Ankeny, Scott (Vickey) of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Brad) Helmuth of Des Moines, Ben Durham of Ankeny, Kari (Dusty) Taylor of Des Moines, Briton Durham of Green Bay, Wisconsin; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Husband Harold E. Durham; son, Harold E Durham, Jr. (Hal); and brother, William Thomas, Jr.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday January 2, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street followed by burial at Avon Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
