Jerri Louise (Estey) Velvick, age 76, of Des Moines

“I drifted off into a peaceful sleep on Sunday morning, January 7, 2018, surrounded by my family. I was born May 13, 1941, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Albert and Bessie (Boatwright) Estey. I lived my life to the fullest, with many gifts to share and always had a smile on my face. I knew you always cared. My family and friends meant the world to me. Thank you for always being there. Thank you for walking with me on my journey home.”

Jerri was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and her twin sister.

She is survived by her daughter, June (Rickey) Stanley, son, Michael Velvick, grandchildren, Nicholas Stanley of Des Moines and Christine Stanley of Cedar Rapids, and great-grandchildren, Kennadie Wells, Anthony Gerde and Brayden Gerde all of Cedar Rapids. Jerri is also survived by her siblings, Helen (Carl) Smith of Colfax, Dale (Marla) Estey of West Des Moines and Mary Estey of Mingo, nieces and nephews, Sherry Yoakum of Colfax, Michelle (Todd) Wilson of Coon Rapids, MN, Joy Dugan of Monroe Center, IL, John (Toni) Lindley of Lawson, MO, Shawn (Amanda) Estey of Urbandale, Russell (Summer Siegle) Lindley of Reasnor, IA, and Nicole (Wynn) Bers of Alexandria, VA, 7 great-nephews and 3 great-nieces.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Camp Sunnyside, Easter Seals of Iowa, Lutheran Hospital’s staff and doctors who have taken care of Jerri during her life, University Park Nursing and Rehab, Dawn Willson of Des Moines, Dave Edwards of Mitchellville, Fire Station #9 at 4800 Douglas Avenue in Des Moines, the staff at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, and Kindred Hospice staff - social worker Kimber Lee Davis, Chaplain Kelly Gaskjen and nurse Ellie Hanson.

Celebration of life will be held May 18, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
