Larry D. Lippert passed away, surrounded by his loving family, at Arbor Springs in West Des Moines, Iowa on January 13, 2018. He was born May 1, 1936 to John Frank and Blanche Whisler Lippert in Paris, Iowa.
Larry graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1955. He attended Coe College prior to enlisting in the US Army. He proudly served in the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper, the US Army’s most strategically mobile division. He then was a member of the US Army Individual Ready Reserve. Larry also served in the Iowa National Guard in 1976.
Larry married Patricia Ann Tart January 4, 1958. Together they raised three children and made their home in Des Moines, Iowa. Larry loved his family and was a devoted husband.
Larry owned and operated Chuck & Larry’s Transmission on Des Moines’ Northeast side for thirty-three years. He was successful and well-respected businessman in the industry. Larry remained a familiar face at the shop for years into his retirement. He was a generous man with a kind heart and an inquisitive mind.
Larry enjoyed many sports, but football was his favorite to watch. He was proud to have played for future Pro Football Hall of Fame Coach Marv Levy while attending Coe College.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, John and Blanche Lippert; brothers, Dwayne (Anna Mae) Lippert and Kenneth Lippert; sister, Donna (Jim) Jacobs; sister-in-law, Jane Ann Lippert. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Patricia Ann Lippert; children, Randy D. (Connie) Lippert, Kimberly D. Lippert, and Timothy R. Lippert; grandchildren, Adam (Ashlan) Lippert, Erin (Clayton) Vance, and Jeremy (Joni Ploeger) Lippert; great-granddaughter, Adelyn Vance; brothers, Jerry (Marcia) Lippert and Sidney Lippert; as well as extended family and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Monday, January 29, 2018 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the funeral home, with a 1:30 p.m. graveside service at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Bloomfield.
