Jan 30th, 2018, Donald Edward Schneider (79) went to be in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior.

Don was born on May 16th, 1938, to Charles and Juniata Schneider and is survived by his wife Betty Ann Schneider, children Chris and Scott Lathrum of Ankeny Iowa, Jerry and Tamara Schneider of Polk City Iowa, Jeff and Holli Schneider of Mingo Iowa in addition to his 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, Dylan Lathrum, Chase Lathrum, Jessie Schneider, Sarah Bradley, Ryan Schneider, Morgan Casey, Evan Beitz, Isaac Beitz Mia Miller Emerson Bradley, Elias Bradley and a new baby sister. He is also survived by 2 sisters Marilyn Stine and Phyllis Gee.

Don was a long time resident of the Des Moines area. He was born and raised his family in Des Moines before moving full time to Sun City West Arizona in 2015. Don graduated from Tech High in 1956 and married the love of his life September 6, 1957 and was bless to see his 60th wedding anniversary. Don dedicated his life to his family and built a family business in the trucking industry that was successful for 37 years. He was a wise entrepreneur, innovator and was never afraid of taking on any project. In retirement he developed a passion for wood working and loved building projects from cabinets to beautiful wood sculptures and carvings. His incredible work ethic transitioned into a drive to make beautiful wooden intarsia pictures and sculptures for friends and family. Everyone could not wait until Christmas when all the things he created all year long for his loved ones ended up under the Christmas tree.

Don was a man of great integrity and one that anyone would want to be like. Don was a strong and humble man and he rarely complained. He battled with cancer and leukemia for years and was able to fight through it with little to no complaints. No matter the procedure, he quietly endured and always believed that he would win the battle and beat his illness. With great sadness, he lost the battle due to complications of his cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines with burial to follow at Brethren Cemetery in Elkhart, Iowa. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home one hour prior to service time.
