Gordon Anderson

Gordon Anderson, 82, passed away February 5, 2018. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with visitation on Friday, February 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. and the memorial service on Saturday, February 10 at 2:00 p.m. The family will host a celebration Saturday afternoon following the service at a location to be announced.

Gordon was born March 31, 1935 to Ruby (Gist) and Lawrence Anderson. After high school, Gordon served his country in the US Navy for two years. After an honorable discharge, he attended the University of Iowa and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business Marketing. He married his sweetheart, Doris Stoker on May 10, 1957. The couple settled in Newton where Gordon worked for Blue Cross and later moved to Des Moines where he worked until retirement in 2000, for State Farm.

Gordon and Doris enjoyed retirement. Traveling in their motorhome for 10 years through the southern states and the Florida Gulf, where they made numerous friends and treasured memories. Gordon was also an avid sports fan. He cheered the Hawkeyes and Cubs to his end.

A kind man, always willing to help and who never met a stranger, Gordon will be greatly missed by his wife of 60 years, Doris; his sons, Gordy (Sue) and Dave (Diane); grandchildren, Stacy Anderson, Jon (Michelle) Anderson, Heather (Luis) Reyes and Dylan Anderson; great-grandchildren, Ethan Anderson, and Alex and Nicolas Reyes; his sister, Karna (Ron) Forbes and Kathryn (Lenny Helfgott) Anderson; and numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
