Robert "Bob" Johansen

Robert “Bob” Johansen, 77, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 after a short illness surrounded by his family.

Bob was born on March 23, 1940 to Walter and Opal Johansen on the family farm in Hampton, Iowa.

Bob attended Hampton Schools and Drake University. He married Rose Ann Soda on October 15, 1966 and two daughters were born to this union. He spent his entire career at Bankers Life/Principal Financial as a Sr. Life Underwriter. Bob retired in 2006.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed his annual trips to Canada hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed kayaking, running and bike riding. He biked on many rides throughout the Midwest and was a long time Ragbrai rider. His greatest joy was his grandchildren. He loved spending time with them and attending their sporting events and activities.

Anyone who knew him enjoyed his positive outlook, determination, smile and especially his laugh.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Brenda (Pat) Caligiuri and Cathryn Johansen; mother of his daughters and wife, Rose Ann Johansen; grandchildren, Anthony Caligiuri, Patrick Caligiuri, Kiara Johansen and Dominic Caligiuri; brothers, Norman and Melvin Johansen; and many nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roy; and sister Marge Frank.

The family will greet friends Friday, February 9, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 10th at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Road. Robert will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
