Service Details

Raymond Earl Tyler, 89, was born October 5, 1928 in Ogden, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Birdie (Hibbs) Tyler. He passed away peacefully Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the VA Hospital in Des Moines.

Raymond proudly served his country in the United States Army as SpC 4th Class in England during the Korean War, where he met and married his wife, Marjorie (Talbot) Tyler on July 23, 1955. To this union two daughters were born. He served nine years on the Southeast Polk School Board including two years as President. Raymond also served on the Mitchellville City Council for 11 years. He was the Past Master of Crystal Lodge #313 of Masons. Above all else, Raymond treasured time spent with his family and truly enjoyed their family get-togethers.

Raymond’s memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 62 years, Marjorie; his daughters, Denise (Tim) Tyler and Vicki (Roger) McConnell; his grandchildren, Cory, Amber (Alex) and Monica (Ben); his great-grandchildren, Alice, Aubrey and Emelia who is due in April; his niece, Sandra (Roy) Crabtree; other loving relatives and many special friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Stoddard, Gwendolyn and Lavina.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Hamilton’s Mitchellville Funeral Home, 303 Center Ave. S. with inurnment to follow at Mitchellville Cemetery. The family will greet friends Tuesday at the funeral home from 10a.m. to 12p.m. prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Disabled Veterans or the Animal Rescue League in loving memory of Raymond. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Veterans Hospital, especially Dr. Susan Espeland and nurse, Beth, for their unconditional love and special care for Raymond.
