Harriet Hulse Murphy

Harriet Hulse Murphy, 86, passed away Friday, February 23, 2018, at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Family will begin greeting guests one hour prior to the service.

Harriet was born July 14, 1931, while her parents were residing in Moville, Iowa. She was the daughter of Otha Dwight and Rhea (Wood) Hulse. Harriet graduated from Mingo High School in 1949, and married Marvin Murphy that November. She moved to Newton where she lived from 1981 – 86, and to Ankeny from 1987 to the present. Harriet loved being with her family. She worked for Maytag and Mingo School District during her career, and for Casey’s General Store after her retirement. She had many interests, including bird watching.

Surviving family members include her children, Becky (Ed) Dieleman and Mark (Jean) Murphy, all of Ankeny, Iowa; brother, Larry Hulse of Ankeny, Iowa; her grandchildren, Tatum (Jon) Buse, Nate (Nicole) Teut, Russ Murphy, and Joseph Murphy (Leah McComas); nine great-grandchildren; and other loving family and friends.

Harriet was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Gene Hulse.
