Dad left us very peacefully on Tuesday morning after what he had described as a "wonderful, long, life well lived". He was born in Des Moines on May 8, 1927, to Stewart and Edythe Sawdey. As a boy he enjoyed summers with his family at a cabin in the woods in Minnesota. He attended both Shattuck Military School Academy in Faribault, MN and East High in Des Moines.

To know Dad was to know a man that loved cars. He was involved with midget racing in his younger years and later enjoyed attending NASCAR races. The love of his life was his beautiful wife of 63 years, Juanita. Together they started and then operated Dell Oil, their truck stop and convenience store business for over 50 years. He liked spending the winters at their home in Scottsdale and summers at Lake Okoboji, but Dad was always glad to get back to his "little house in Johnston".

He is now reunited with his parents, step-parents, grandparents, his younger brother and many beloved Scottish terriers. Left to celebrate this wonderful, generous man are his beloved wife, his half-sister, two daughters, a son-in-law, three grandchildren, a cousin, nieces and nephews, Walter who was his best friend for over 80 years, and many others.

As Dad would say "You can't ask for a better life!"
