Barbara Lea Alexander

Barbara L. Alexander, 71, passed away February 28, 2018, at Ramsey Village in Des Moines. She was born August 7, 1946, in Des Moines, to Clyde and Gertrude Lewis.

Barbara was a proud graduate of East High School. She worked at North Iowa Express for many years as a clerk, and also at Saia as an OS&D (Overages, Shortages, and Damages) Clerk for more than 15 years.

Barbara enjoyed sewing, crocheting, making jewelry and crafting. She also enjoyed baking holiday treats. She was very generous to her friends and family, always helping those she cared about. Above all else, she cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by her children, Rick (Karen) Alexander and Kim (Brian) Andersen; grandchildren, Katlyn, Nick, Abby, and Ally; sisters, Betty Schneider and Millie Yarges; as well as many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Clifford Lewis.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2018, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Brethren Cemetery in Elkhart, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Avalon Hospice in loving memory of Barbara.
