Rex was born January 22, 1931 and went to be with his Heavenly Father on June 16, 2018. His parents were Earl Devine and Marvel Grimm. He grew up on the family farm north of Indianola. He graduated from Indianola High School Class of 1949. He attended Simpson College and Devry Technical Institute. Rex served in the United Sates Air Force where he met and married Beverly Wentworth, of Brewer, ME. They were happily married for 66 years.

Rex was employed by Iowa Power and Light Company for 30 years. He managed the Iowa Power and Light office in Ankeny, at the time of his retirement in 1985. Rex came out of retirement in 1987 to become a corporate pilot for Casey’s General Stores retiring in 1994.

He was a Charter Member of Ankeny First United Methodist Church, Faith Chapel. He belonged to the Za Ga Zig Shrine, and Logic Lodge #636 for over 50 years and was instrumental in starting the Flying Fez Unit for the Shrine. Some of his most rewarding moments were flying patients to the Shrine hospitals in Chicago and Cincinnati.

Rex was a long time member of the Ankeny Chamber, Ankeny Industrial Development, and an original member of the Ankeny Airport Authority Board (13 years). He had flown aircrafts since the early 1950’s, and rebuilt, owned, and operated several aircrafts. He was a member of North Field Flying Club (42 years). Hobbies included flying, hunting, fly fishing, and fly tying. Rex was a member of the Iowa Trail Roaders Motor Home Club traveling all over IA and trips to ME and AZ.

He is survived by his wife Beverly, of Ankeny, daughter Julie (Robert) Messelheiser, of Polk City, and granddaughter Heidi Messelheiser (Jim McLelland) of Grimes. Brother Gerald (Margaret) Devine of Lincoln, NE, brother in law Mike Myatt of Fayetteville, NC, and extended family in Maine. Brent (Lisa) Messelheiser, Dawn (Tom) Ledin, along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Faith Chapel, 7384 NW 16th, in Ankeny, June 20, 2018. Visitation will be from 10 – 11 am and the service to follow. A private family Interment will be at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, IA.
