James Franklin Sommers

James Franklin Sommers, 80, passed away August 10, 2018 at West Ridge Specialty Care in Knoxville.

James was born December 3, 1937 in Des Moines to Frank and Myrtle (Rundle) Sommers. He retired from Principal Financial where he had worked as a groundskeeper for many years. James enjoyed photography and drawing. He enjoyed going to auto shows and he loved the Iowa State Fair.

James is survived by his sons, Dale Sommers and Richard Sommers; daughter-in-law, Cheri Sommers; grandson, Sean Sommers; sister, Sheila Fosdick; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents and his beloved wife, Eva Sommers.

The family will greet friends Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 11 am to 12 pm followed by the funeral service at 12 pm at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. James will be laid to rest at Linn Grove Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association in loving memory of James.
