M Gwynethe (Gwen) Larsen

M Gwynethe (Gwen) Larsen passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at the Rowan Branch Memory Center at Scottish Rite Park. At her request no services are planned. The body has been cremated and interred at Masonic Cemetery Mausoleum.

Gwen was born January 6, 1920, in Alberta, Canada. At age 16 she and her family moved to Iowa. Following graduation from Hartford High School she attended AIB, completing the Executive Secretarial Course. She was a member of Alpha lota Sorority. In 1941 she married Albert Larsen. Gwen started her career with the Federal Government at Camp Carson, Colorado, in 1942 where her husband was stationed during World War II. Following her husband’s discharge from the service they returned to Des Moines where she transferred to the Veterans Administration. She retired from the VA Hospital after 34 years of government service.

Gwen was a member of First Christian Church in Des Moines, and the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees. Over the years she has been a member of Acanthus-Waveland Park Chapter of Eastern Star, the Greater Des Moines Garden Club, and Nobelles Club. Following retirement she and Al enjoyed many years of travelling. She also enjoyed boating and water skiing, attending the Des Moines Playhouse and the former Ingersoll Dinner Theater, and playing cards with friends.

Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Albert in 2005; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Snider; and four brothers: Harrell and Carroll of Alberta, Canada, Darrell of Cambridge, Iowa, and Raymond of Windsor Heights. She is survived by many nieces and nephews in Canada and the U.S.
