Service Details

Judy Kay Johnson, 76, of Johnston, Iowa passed away from complications of dementia on October 12, 2018 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Judy was born May 22, 1942 in Indianola, Iowa to Maxine and Boyd Weeks. She grew up in a large family with five siblings, with whom she shared untold adventures in her youth. She always considered Indianola her home.

Judy was married to R. Lynn Johnson on March 28, 1964. They were married for 33 years. Judy had two children, Whitney Hanson (Gary) of Golden Valley, Minnesota and Jeff Johnson (Danielle) of Grimes, Iowa. She had six grandchildren that she loved dearly – Hank Hanson, Hope Hanson, Meredith Johnson, Noah Johnson, Hannah Johnson and Emmett Johnson.
Judy was particularly equipped with the spiritual gift of mercy. She loved, above all else, to help crying babies, the downtrodden, homeless animals and those in need. She started the Humane Society of Lucas County, which is still in operation and thriving. She sponsored refugees from Sudan. She gave untold resources to the homeless and underprivileged. She was particularly creative and always added a little something extra to the lives of others. Even when she was being given care at her assisted living facility, she worked hard to brighten the lives of others around her. She loved to dance. She loved her family. She was a wonderful mother. No one that ever met Judy could easily forget her.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Betty Dittmer.
Judy is survived by her sisters, Shirley Culbertson (John Myron), and Dixie Luna, and her brothers, Jimmy Weeks (Joanne) and Jerry Weeks.
